Ecostock Ltd – Unified Enterprise System

Occam provides Ecostock with an information system designed specifically to meet their unique set of business processes; we continue to add new functionality extremely quickly and cost effectively; after being in production for nearly two years, the total cost to date has been less than $50,000 NZD.

Situation

Ecostock is a business with 50+ staff who were completely reliant on a variety of Excel files to manage their external relationships, transportation logistics and billing cycles. Analytics were non-existent. Billing opportunities were often missed. The business domain knowledge was stored in individuals’ heads, especially around logistics and billing leading to high risk single points of failure. Business process documentation was limited. Business growth was limited by the capacity for manual data entry and data manipulation.

To be clear, the ‘Excel as information system’ had served them well. Ecostock have grown to being the nation’s largest food recycler. But the business has aspirations to grow further, especially with the go live of the $35m anaerobic digestion factory that produces natural gas, (plus several other factories planned around the country).

So they were ready for an enterprise grade client server cloud-based information system to act as their central nervous system recording all business processes in one place. They were also keenly aware of the risks associated with the bespoke development requirement needs for their specialist business.

Approach

After spending three years on an information system that failed to ever go live, Occam was chosen due to our knowledge of environmental information systems, and our ability to iterate and go live extremely quickly. Occam provides Ecostock with a single information system designed specifically to meet their unique set of business processes.

We work individually with each business unit to develop their specific needs while maintaining an agile data-centric design methodology that ensures data is unified across all the different business units.

Outcome

Ecostock now uses Occam as their single unified information system involving all steps of the business. There are no complex integrations, multiple datasets or APIs required. Data from Relate (our CRM module) feeds the accurate data required for logistics. Data from logistics provides all the information required for the billing engine. Analytics and insights come from a single data source. Most importantly, as the business evolves, we continue to add new functionality (extremely quickly and cost effectively) providing Ecostock with data at the speed of business.
